– Capcom aims to enhance IP value through joint-production with
Legendary Entertainment, makers of numerous hit films –

Capcom Co., Ltd. (Capcom) today announced that it will jointly produce both a live-action film and a television series based on its storied Street Fighter video game series with Legendary Entertainment (Legendary).

Capcom seeks to enhance its brands via its Single Content Multiple Usage strategy to further bolster worldwide sales in its core home video game software business. The company strongly believes that adapting its game content into movies and television shows provides opportunities to build awareness of its brands with a wide audience that extends beyond the game market. In working with Legendary, which boasts a track record of numerous hit films, Capcom aims to further enhance the value of its IPs throughout the globe.

The first title in the Street Fighter series was released as an arcade game in 1987, followed by the global smash hit Street Fighter II in 1991 which generated mass excitement due to its innovative battle system. Since then, the series has continued to enjoy immense popularity across the globe, with cumulative shipments for the series totaling over 49 million units worldwide*. Further, in addition to the series increasing its presence as a driving force in the fighting game genre of esports in recent years, the newest entry in the series, Street Fighter 6, is scheduled for release on June 2, 2023.

Utilizing its Single Content Multiple Usage strategy, Capcom will continue to pursue a multifaceted approach in leveraging its rich portfolio of brands.
