Capcom Notches a Double Win at the Japan Game Awards: 2024
with Street Fighter 6 and Dragon’s Dogma 2 Each Taking an
Award for Excellence in the Games of the Year Division!
– Monsters Hunter Wilds won an award in the Future Division –
Capcom Co., Ltd. (Capcom) today announced that Street Fighter 6 won both an Award for Excellence and Special Award while Dragon’s Dogma 2 won an Award for Excellence in the Games of the Year Division of the Japan Game Awards: 2024 (held by the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association). In addition, Monster Hunter Wilds won an Award in the Future Division. The prizes were announced at Tokyo Game Show 2024, which was held from September 26-29.
Winner of an Award for Excellence and a Special Award, Street Fighter 6 is the latest title in the series and was launched seven years after its predecessor. As a result of appealing to a broad range of players, including with the introduction of a new controller input mode and the announcement that Capcom’s eSports championship tournament will be held in Japan for the first time, the title won an Award for Excellence. Further, Street Fighter 6 also won a Special Award for enhancing audio accessibility to help provide a gameplay experience without visuals.
Additionally, Dragon’s Dogma 2, an action game set in a fantasy setting where players adventure in a world of swords and magic, also won an Award for Excellence in the Games of the Year Division. In this title, players can enjoy a taste of adventuring in a group of people while playing solo thanks to self-acting travelling companions known as Pawns. Acclaim for its highly original gameplay experience led the game to be honored with the award.
Moreover, Monster Hunter Wilds won an award in the Future Division, where players vote to select the upcoming titles to which they most look forward. The title was featured at Tokyo Game Show 2024 with more than 150 playable demos, including those at the PlayStation® exhibition booth, the largest number of such in the series’ history of exhibitions at the show. As a result of garnering mass attention, with many attendees playing the demo soon after the show doors were opened, the title won an award in the Future Division.
Capcom remains firmly committed to satisfying the expectations of all users by leveraging its industry leading game development capabilities in order to create highly entertaining gameplay experiences.
