– Tournament brings Street Fighter series competitions back to their starting point
at the Ryogoku Kokugikan Arena after a 30-year hiatus –
Capcom Co., Ltd. (Capcom) today announced that it will hold Capcom Cup 11 in Japan. Capcom Cup 11 is the championship tournament of the Capcom Pro Tour 2024 series of esports tournaments that are held worldwide and feature the company’s hit title Street Fighter 6.
Each year since 2014, Capcom has held the Capcom Pro Tour, featuring competitions in as many as 160 countries and regions as the tournament runs throughout the year. With its Capcom Cup championship tournament, Capcom has been working to further invigorate the esports fighting game scene globally, which has included offering a $1 million USD (approx. 150 million yen*) grand prize in the previous season.
For Capcom Cup 11, the championship tournament of the 2024 season, the company announced that it will hold the event at Ryogoku Kokugikan Arena and once again offer a $1 million USD grand prize for the competition. Capcom also plans to hold Street Fighter League: World Championship 2024 at the same venue, which will be the world championship tournament for the team-based Street Fighter League. The events come approximately 30 years since the last time a Street Fighter II national tournament was held at Ryogoku Kokugikan Arena. In the 2024 season, Capcom aims to not only invigorate the esports market, but also to further popularize esports in Japan.
Capcom is committed to promoting industry development through building a structure aimed at expanding the esports ecosystem so that fans and competitors alike can enjoy the thrill of competition.
