In 1984, life for a 21 year old college student was about to change forever...for a sketch done to make his creative partner laugh, "A Ninja Turtle" was born. Together Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird co-created one of the best selling black and white comics of all time, which lead to a #1 animated T.V. series for four straight years, which lead to a record setting live action film, and on to one of the biggest boys action figure properties of all time... The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Born in May of 1962 in Portland Maine, and sporting an inherited artistic talent, he followed the dream of becoming a storyteller his entire life, and the "TMNT" was only the beginning. This early success allowed Eastman to purchase another childhood inspiration, "Heavy Metal Magazine" in 1991. Brought to the United states in 1997 the magazine has featured the best of European comics, and spawned an Ivan Reitman produced animated hit film in 1981, one of the 10 best selling videos of 1996, and another animated feature written and designed by Eastman and Bisley in 2000. Continuing to build on the historical statis of the nearly 25 year old company brand name, by creating video games, toys, collectible classic graphic novels, and continuing to feature the best of European artists in the magazine, Heavy Metal is stronger than ever. Looking to to the future, Kevin and his wife Julie Strain continue to work hard on "Heavy Metal" related projects like the upcoming"Underwhere," "Ghettopolis" and "Fistful of Blood" which will cross all mediums, and push the company into the next century and beyond. |
