Developer Interview

Shutaro Kobayashi / Senior Manager of CS Quality Control Section

Always Think "User First" Human Resource Management to Achieve High Quality

- Are you responsible for strategic organization of human resources in your team?
"Kobayashi"
No, actually, the coordinator manages all the databases. He surveys the time of increasing staffs, the organization of a new game team, transfer of staffs after operating the line, and so on, through discussions with on-site team leaders and managers. My duty is to plant the common values in the members of the division. I believe it's up to 50 persons who share the same mind no matter who instructs. I'm always making some dozens of members report to me share the same values, including "our destination" and "the most valuable thing to users." All staff members could work together towards a common goal spread by each of those who report to me.
- Then, all the members with the same mind work together to reach your goal.
"Kobayashi"
Exactly. We focus particularly on education in the organizational operation. Since this division requires each of the staff members including new recruits to be a qualified worker, those new comers would take a heavy responsibility and pressure. For this reason we spend enough time and effort in the programs to educate them basic knowledge.
I'm looking to evaluate results as honestly as possible. Though it's unexpectedly difficult, I'm always going to give honor where honor is due, and to thoroughly survey the causes where there's a problem. No lesson is valuable if it's not exploited in the next time.
- What do you do regularly to reinforce the strength as a team?
"Kobayashi"
Well, we hold big quarterly conferences all employees including contracted take part in, and also, briefing of the future direction and individual interviews in a regular interval. As I said before, it's most important to "share the same goal," I'm focusing on these activities. Furthermore, since I'd each member to be conscious of personal growth, I always show our mission to contract employees and part-timers and make them submit their self-rating reports.
- And last, can you please tell us your belief?
"Kobayashi"
Our basic position is "User First" in all cases. I believe "we're working for the satisfaction of our users" because we are a last line of defense of the connection between Capcom and our users. Development is finished when the CS Quality Control Division says "finish" because it is the last process of development. Then if we do careless work, our users will obtain the result of the carelessness. Users who find a bug may think "How irresponsible Capcom is ..." even though it has no direct impact on the game. Trust is hard to build and easy to lose. We're always required to keep up trust and not to disappoint expectations.

We're always an object of criticism, while we seldom receive applause. Although it's impossible to get rid of all bugs, it's generally perceived that any game software is free from bugs. In case any big defect is left unsolved, the brand image will be flawed no matter how interesting the game is. At any time, if we release a product at all, I'd like to aim at perfection.
